JULY 24, 2021 SHORT TAKES ON THE DRIFTING WRECKAGE – OVERNIGHT: ANOTHER LEFTIST HYPOCRITE – FROM FOX: A Democratic congressional candidate in Ohio and former co-chair of Sen. Bernie Sanders’, I-Vt., failed 2020 presidential campaign has railed against corruption in her campaign but her political director is under investigation for misusing his own campaign cash. GREAT IDEA – FROM THE NEW YORK POST: A new conservative publishing house wants to get the “wokeness” out of bedtime. Launching this week, Brave Books will focus exclusively on stories for kids, and offers parents “a conservative alternative to the current cultural activism that our children are being taught in schools, in the entertainment they watch and the books they read,” according to their website. Company CEO Trent Talbot, who had his first child a little more than a year ago, conceived of Brave Books when, he said, he started to notice “that there is a real war going on for the hearts and minds of our kids. And everywhere I looked was propaganda,” the Montgomery, Texas-based dad told The Post. An ophthalmologist by trade, Talbot pointed to Ibram X. Kendi’s picture book, “Antiracist Baby,” which urges parents and kids to “make equity a reality,” as content that needs a counterpoint. “Once my eyes were open I was seeing it everywhere and I couldn’t unsee it,” Talbot said. “I thought there was a need for books that could help parents teach the values they hold dear.” Wonderful gift for a child. This man is doing something worthwhile. We wish him success. July 24, 2021 Permalink
GIVE THE MAN CREDIT – OVERNIGHT: Former President Trump has held a rally in Arizona. A few nights before, President Biden held a town hall on CNN. Biden's town hall was, uh, subdued, in the same way that a funeral parlor is subdued. Trump's rally was gangbusters. Man Walks on Moon! It can't be denied. Trump's base is alive and animated. No one really knows how large it is, and that's the key question. But that base is electric. From RedState:
COMMENT: Sounds like a man running for president, but I doubt if he'll make his decision for many months. He'll do a great deal of internal polling, he'll test out lines, he'll measure the degree of support he has within the party, and he'll only run if he has a heavy chance of winning. You may be sure he dreams of returning to the White House in a limousine driven by Kamala Harris. He'll make sure she has a license, and insurance. July 24, 2021 Permalink
JULY 23, 2021 SHORT TAKES ON THE DRIFTING WRECKAGE – OVERNIGHT: THE MOST IMPORTANT STORY IN THE WORLD – FROM FOX: Media critic Joe Concha sounded off Friday after the MLB's Cleveland Indians decided after more than 100 years to change their name to the "Cleveland Guardians." Concha told "Hannity" that it is clear the move was made to appease left-wing political groups but added that there had been little objection to the name until recently. "If the term Indians is so overtly racist, how did it survive for a century?" Concha asked, adding that White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki's defense of the name change was further revealing. "They are so afraid of the woke mob in their own party," he said of the Democrats. Host Tammy Bruce remarked that the most vocal opponents of the Indians' name likely don't even follow baseball. Concha added that the move may spell doom for other mascots like the Kansas City Chiefs of the NFL, the Florida State University Seminoles and the Atlanta Braves. "Or, maybe it's just a symbol of pride and tradition; celebrating Indian culture." In that regard, he remarked that it is clear what the left-wing "woke" mob will target next in professional sports: The New York Jets. The Jets, who share a stadium with the intracity rival Giants in East Rutherford, N.J., could ostensibly come under fire because they are named for passenger airliners, he said. Yes, those evil passenger liners ruining the climate. And those fools in business class, destroying the world. You know, crime is soaring in America, children are being murdered by the carload every day, and maybe we should concentrate on that rather than the names of football teams. July 23, 2021 Permalink
OUR GUYS ARE DOING THE JOB – OVERNIGHT: The nation is at a crossroads, especially in the way we educate our children. But the good guys are fighting back against the lunatic ideas that are flooding our schools. From Epoch Times:
COMMENT: A good approach. I think it's clear that the political left learned over the years that they could not win nationally, or even in state elections, unless they started taking over local institutions, which would give them a base. It's also clear that they've concentrated on school boards, with the obvious intent of influencing the young generation. One of the most common comments we hear these days from people on our side, about their school boards is, "I thought these were our neighbors." Now, thanks to the new activism by conservative parents, school boards are at the center of political discussion...and combat. July 23, 2021 Permalink

SIZZLING SITES Power Line "The left needs two things to survive. It needs mediocrity, and it needs dependence. It nurtures mediocrity in the public schools and the universities. It nurtures dependence through its empire of government programs. A nation that embraces mediocrity and dependence betrays itself, and can only fade away, wondering all the time what might have been." - Urgent Agenda
